How Heroes Can Qualify for a New Program

This new program offers down payment assistance for local heroes.

Recently, the Governor of Florida greenlit the Hometown Heroes Program. This is a down payment assistance program designed to help certain occupations in Florida, especially first-time buyers. Today I want to explain how you can qualify for this program and what it entails. 

To qualify, you need to meet these requirements:

1. You must not have owned a home in Florida in the last three years
2. You need a base FICO score of at least 640
3. You need a qualifying occupation

There are many qualifying occupations, but some common ones include EMTs, firefighters, police officers, teachers, nurses, and most other hospital positions. These jobs only cover a small portion of the list, so if you’d like to know if you qualify, just reach out.

So if you qualify for this program, what does it do for you? This program is a $25,000 down payment assistance program. You can also choose to accept 5% of the purchase price of the home instead. However, you will eventually have to pay the loan back. When you sell, refinance, or rent out the home, your loan repayment will be due.
